Medicine Droppers, Pipettes, and Bulbs

Droppers and bulbs

C211.  Bulb, rubber, 1 mL capacity. Spare rubber bulbs for medicine droppers.  Will also work with Pasteur pipettes but will not draw the full volume of a standard Pasteur pipette.
#C211.............$3.00 / dozen

Quantity:

C212.  Bulb, rubber, 5 mL capacity.  Pipette bulb, mainly for use with dropping pipets.
These work with the Volumetric pipettes;  instead of putting the end of the pipette into the hole in the bulb, press the end to the hole to make a seal when drawing up liquid.  This takes practice but makes it easier to remove the bulb quickly-- before the liquid drops below the fill line.
Hole is of a small diameter, ca. 2 mm.  Even with stretching, it's too narrow for Pasteur pipettes.  (When we use these ourselves in the lab, we enlarge the hole).
Color:  black
Sold in quantity of 1 dozen each.

#C212.......................................$13.00 / dozen
Volume discount:  6-12 dozen:  $12.00 / doz.;  13-24 dozen:  $11.50 / doz.;
25+ dozen:  $11.00 / doz.

Quantity:

C501.  Pipette, Volumetric, 1 mL.  Class A accuracy.

#C501..........................................$45.00 / pack

C505.  Pipette, Volumetric, 5 mL.  Class A accuracy.

#C505..........................................$52.00 / pack

Quantity:

To enlarge the hole in the 5 mL bulb, one can heat the end of a 20-penny nail or a glass stir-rod having diameter of approx. 5 mm and push it into the hole while rotating.  The nail or rod is heated only just enough to melt the rubber, not scorch it.   It may take repeated applications.

If the nail or rod is too hot, the smoke from the scorched rubber will build up pressure rapidly inside the bulb.  The nail or rod can then be ejected unexpectedly from the bulb.

When the bulb cools, one can clean any residues away with a little bit of VM&P naphtha or alcohol.  The bulb is then filled with warm detergent-water and allowed to soak for a while before rinsing thoroughly with water.
