Rare, Exotic, and REE Cabochons- this section has cabs of the most exotic and seldom-encountered materials. Some pieces are free-form and suitable for wire-wrap jewelry or simply for collecting; others (where indicated) are standard sizes for mounting in various jewelry findings.

CT005. Cerite & Tornebohmite cabochonCerite & Toernebohmite with Chalcopyrite - Cerit Gruva, Bastnaes, Riddarhyttan, Sweden. Tapered, domed cabochon cut from these rare cerium silicate minerals - high polish, approx. 1 1/2" tall x 7/8" wide at base x 3/8" wide at top - has the property of showing dull pink-violet color in sunlight or incandescent light (as shown in photo) yet shows no color in fluorescent white light and appears gray to black. This is about as pronounced a color change as we've found in the cerite pieces that were available for cutting.
As with most other cabs, the back is unpolished.

CT1061 Hancockite and hyalophane cabHyalophane & Hancockite with Andradite and Franklinite - Palmer Shaft, Franklin, New Jersey. Brick-red hancockite in hyalophane (a barium feldspar) with tan andradite garnet and black franklinite. High gloss polish, teardrop shape. Size is ca. 37 mm tall x 22 mm wide across largest dimensions.

CT1038. Green willemite with leucophoeniciteWillemite & Leucophoenicite - Franklin, NJ. Free-form, six-sided cabochon of green willemite and pink leucophoenicite having bevelled edges and flat face. Front and sides are polished, back is unpolished. The willemite is of course highly fluorescent in SW. Max dimensions approx. 22 x 17 mm. #CT1038 ... SOLD
