| Q: What are Achromatic, PLAN, and Semi-PLAN? A: Achromatic is a standard lens type designed to reduce or eliminate chromatic (color) aberration. Semi-PLAN and PLAN optics are improvements over the basic type. They "flatten" the field of view (i.e., more of the subject appears in the plane of focus). Full PLAN optics are the most expensive but allow the greatest "flattening" of the image. Q: What is Koehler Illumination and why would I need it? A: The image quality of a microscope depends not only on its lenses but also on the focus and evenness of the light source. Koehler illumination adds another diaphragm to the light path, allowing for finer adjustment, elimination of stray light, and more uniform illumination. If your budget can cover the extra $85 or so, the Koehler upgrade kit (#R3-KHL) is worth it. |

The Revelation III comes standard with achromatic objective lenses having a 30-year antifungal coating. Alternatively, it can be purchased with Semi-PLAN or PLAN objective lenses for even higher optical clarity and better flatness of field.
This scope's capabilities can be expanded, too: The monocular and binocular versions can be fitted with the handy, easy-to-use Mini-VID eyepiece camera or the high-res Bio-VID CCD camera. The trinocular version can be fitted with the Bio-VID camera or other CCD camera via a C-mount. Darkfield condenser and phase-contrast kit are available as separate add-ons for any of the Revelation III models.

The Eye Tube configuration (shown in photo) is essentially another eyepiece tube that can be used for attaching the Mini-VID or, with the proper adapters (sold separately), for attaching a digital camera such as a Canon Powershot.
The C-mount configuration (not shown) is for attaching those cameras that specifically use this attachment type (e.g., CCD cameras such as the Bio-VID)
